The IPEDS Flat table contains the race and ethnicity data as reported by the applicant. There is one row per applicant_id, record_source, application_term.
Common Usage examples
- Do an analysis on the race/ethnicity of an admissions cohort.
||Indexed Data Elements
- Race and ethnicity data are self-reported, and applicants are not required to provide the data. Some applicants will not have data in this table.
- Because race and ethnicity data can be updated by students via Penn InTouch, the data in the Graduate Admissions collection can be different from other student data collections in the Data Warehouse.
- Data are extracted nightly from Apply Yourself and loaded to the school staging tables, and from there a process moves race and ethnicity data for applicants to the ga_ipeds_flat table. For schools who do not use Apply Yourself, datasets are batch uploaded to the warehouse at the school's discretion, stored in the school staging tables, and from there a process moves race and ethnicity data to the ga_ipeds_flat table.
