CEN STDT ADVISOR TERM Table - Data Element Index

Data element mapping back to SRS Definition

Advisor_Ssn

RT3A1 ADVISOR SSN
NATURAL_ALIAS: ADVISOR-ID-RT
see SRS screen 1A9
The Social Security number of this academic advisor. Note: this data element is no longer viewable in SRS, and is also hidden from the Business Objects universe display.

Advisor_Penn_ID

n/a

The 8-digit identification number assigned to the employee when their record was created in the PennCommunity database. No two persons have the same Penn_ID. Only persons affiliated with the University will be assigned a Penn_ID.

Penn_ID is not stored in SRS. It is populated in the Data Warehouse from a extract from PennCommunity.

Advisor_Type

RT3A2 ADVISOR TYPE

NATURAL ALIAS: ADVISOR-TYPE-RT

appears on SRS screen 1A9

Describes the advisor-to-student relationship.

Values:

A - Academic Advisor
C - Department Chair
H - House Dean
J - Junior/Senior contact
M - Major Advisor
S - School Advisor

Degree_Order

derived from the position of the data, as entered on SRS screen 1A9

The number 1 or 2 indicating the order of the degree program to which the advisor was assigned in SRS. Note that this is not programmatically tied in SRS to the Degree Programs in the student's term record, and it is entirely possible for an advisor to be assigned to the wrong Degree_Order, including a Degree_Order that doesn't exist on the student's DEGREE_TERM record. For this reason, in the Business Objects student universe, this column is not used to join tables. See "Cautions" for the ADVISOR TERM Table.

Stdt_Penn_ID
appears on SRS screen 103

The 8-digit identification number assigned to the student when their record was created in the PennCommunity database. No two persons have the same Penn_ID. Only persons affiliated with the University will be assigned a Penn_ID.

Penn_ID is not stored in SRS, but can be used on screen 103 to look up a student. It is populated in the Data Warehouse from a extract from PennCommunity.

Note that because the SSN is still the record key in SRS, it is possible for two records to accidentally get created in SRS with different SSNs, for the same person. When this happens, there will be two different records in the Data Warehouse with the same PennID. Please report all PennID duplicates to either Data Administration, or the Office of the University Registrar.

Stdt_Ssn

AA005 STUDENT ID

NATURAL ALIAS: SID-AA

the record key for all student data in SRS; appears in the context line of all student-related screens

For students who are United States citizens or permanent residents, the Student ID number in SRS is generally the Social Security number of this student. A Social Security number is a unique number assigned to an individual by the federal Social Security Administration.

For foreign students and a few other exceptions, the value in this column may be a Penn-assigned ssn.

Note: Never release a student's Social Security number to anyone without the student's permission. Whenever possible, do not include SSN in your query results, and if you must do so, you do so with the full knowlege that you will be held responsibile for the careful maintenance of any datafiles, reports or other stored data containing SSNs.

Please see http://www.upenn.edu/privacy/ for more about the University's policies and general cautions regarding the use of SSNs.

RT005 STF TERM CODE
