Column Mapping back to SRS Description
Argument

RC420 ARGUMENT

NATURAL ALIAS: SCHD_ARG_RC

Appears on SRS screen 131

The control Argument determines the population or category of students involved in the Registration Control. For example, a Registration Control of QRS is a quota reserving specified seats. Used with an Argument of DIV, the specified seats will be reserved for a specified division. The division would be specified in Value, and the number of seats would be specified in Seat_Count.

NATURAL ALIAS: SECT-ID-RC

part of the context line for all SRS course screens

The unique identifier for a specific course section in a specific term, composed of the Subject_Area, the Course_Number, and the Section_Number.

See also Section_ID in COURSE_SECTION.

Negate

RC422 NEGATION FLAG

NATURAL ALIAS: SCHD-REL-RC

appears on SRS screen 131

The Negate control determines whether the criteria defined in the Registration Control is a positive or negative restriction. For example, a Registration Control of QRS that is used with an Argument of LEVEL, a Value of U, and a Negate of N, means the specified seats will be restricted such that undergraduate students may not take those seats.
Reg_Control_Code

RC405 REGISTRATION CONTROL

NATURAL ALIAS: REGS-CTL-RC

appears on SRS screen 131

Control Codes beginning with M are informational messages for the course term publications. All other Registration Control Codes are used by SRS registration processes, in tandem with the control Argument and the control Value, to define categories of students who are allowed to enroll in a course section. For example, a Registration Control of QRS is a quota reserving specified seats, and the Argument and Value are used to identify the groups of students for whom those seats will be reserved.

Req_Count

RC440 MATCHING REQUEST CNT

NATURAL ALIAS: SCHD-TLY-RC

appears on SRS screen 131

Request Count is a point-in-time value. It indicates the number of students who met the Registration Control criteria at the time they registered. It does not reflect later changes in the student population. If a student changes status after enrollment, the Request Count is not adjusted. For example, if the Registration Control restricted enrollment to just Freshmen, and a freshman student who enrolled subsequently had a status change in that same semester to Sophomore, the Request Count would not decrease.

Seat_Count

RC410 SEAT COUNT

NATURAL ALIAS: SEAT-CNT-RC

Appears on SRS screen 131

In SRS, Seat Count can be entered by the department creating the Registration Control, or it can be left blank. If the department enters a number, the Registration Control applies to that specified number. For example, if the Registration Control is for a quota, the Argument is LEVEL, the Value is U, and the Seat Count is 10, then ten seats in that course are reserved for undergraduates. If the department leaves seat count blank, it is assumed that the Registration Control applies to all possible enrollees, that is, the max number of enrollments. In the Data Warehouse, the seat count will be either the number associated with the Registration Control, or, if that is blank in SRS, it will be the maximum enrollment for the Course Section for that term.

Seat_Count does not apply to Registration Controls that begin with "M".

Note: for cross-listed courses, the maximum enrollment is calculated as follows:

  • If the primary course section controls the registration of all sections in a cross-listed course, the Seat_Count will be the total max of all sections (this never exceeds the original max set by the primary section).
  • If the registration is independently controlled, the Seat_Count will be the max of just the associated Course_Section_ID.
Term

RC005 TERM, CTF

NATURAL ALIAS: CTF-TERM-RC

part of the SRS context line for all Course Term File screens

The term that this course section is offered.

Penn divides the academic year into 3 terms or semesters: Fall, Spring, and Summer. Terms are designated by the 4-digit calendar year, followed by a term code. The Spring term code is A, the Summer term code is B, and the Fall term code is C.

Example: 1995C means Fall 1995, 1996A means Spring 1996, 1996B means Summer 1996

Value

RC423 VALUE

NATURAL ALIAS: SCHD-VAL-RC

Appears on SRS screen 131

The control Value for the category in the control Argument that applies to a Registration Control. For example, a Registration Control of QRS is a quota reserving specified seats. Used with an Argument of DIV and a Value of WH, the spedified seats will be reserved for the division Wharton Undergrad.

Values: The data values for Value will depend on the Argument. For example, if the Argument is MAJ, then the possible data values for Value are all valid Majors. If the Argument is DIV, then the possible data values are all valid Divisions, etc.
