Data element mapping back to SRS Definition
Career

AA630 DEFAULT_CAREER

NATURAL ALIAS: CAREER-AA

Appears on SRS screen 110

The career associated with this degree during this term. In SRS, the degree programs at the term level are mapped to a record in the APS (Academic Program Summary) to find the associated career.

A career may be a portion, or it may be all, of a student's academic history at the University of Pennsylvania. Generally, a career corresponds to that portion of a student's academic record that appears on a single transcript and is associated with the academic program in which the student is enrolled. A student may pursue several careers at the University, and each career will appear on a separate transcript. For example, a student who has completed an undergraduate career may then pursue a career in Law. See also Restrict_Degree in the DEGREE_PURSUAL_ALL_V Table.

Degree_Order

derived from the positional indicators of the term data elements in SRS.

on SRS screen 111, the degree order appears as text

The number that indicates the order of the degree program. It is used to distinguish two degrees, for those students who are pursuing multiple degrees at the same time.

1 = Primary program
2 = Secondary program
0 = this is a place-holder in the warehouse. You will not find this value in SRS. It is used in situations where a dual degree student has an unresolved leave from a previous program, resulting in 3 overlapping programs. The unresolved leave program will have a Degree Order of 0. (Note: a Degree Order of zero usually indicates the student's data in the APS record in SRS, as seen on screen 110, needs to be corrected.)

RT147 DEGREE, SEC.

NATURAL ALIAS: DEG-PRI-RT
or
DEG-SEC-RT

Penn_ID is not stored in SRS, but can be used on screen 103 to look up a student. It is populated in the Data Warehouse from a extract from PennCommunity.

Note that because the SSN is still the record key in SRS, it is possible for two records to accidentally get created in SRS with different SSNs, for the same person. When this happens, there will be two different records in the Data Warehouse with the same PennID. Please report all PennID duplicates to either Data Administration, or the Office of the University Registrar.

Ssn

AA005 STUDENT ID

NATURAL ALIAS: SID-AA

the record key for all student data in SRS; appears in the context line of all student-related screens

For students who are United States citizens or permanent residents, the Student ID number in SRS is generally the Social Security number of this student. A Social Security number is a unique number assigned to an individual by the federal Social Security Administration.

For foreign students and a few other exceptions, the value in this column may be a Penn-assigned ssn.

Note: Never release a student's Social Security number to anyone without the student's permission. Whenever possible, do not include SSN in your query results, and if you must do so, you do so with the full knowlege that you will be held responsibile for the careful maintenance of any datafiles, reports or other stored data containing SSNs.

Please see http://www.upenn.edu/privacy/ for more about the University's policies and general cautions regarding the use of SSNs.

Term_Cumulative_Gpa calculated This field contains the cumulative grade point average calculated for a specified term for a student's degree. Grade point average is a measure of academic success. It is calculated by dividing quality credits (term credits that apply toward the gpa)into grade points (the sum of the numeric values that correspond to each grade included in the gpa in a term).
Term_Earned_Credit

RT025 TERM EARNED CREDITS

NATURAL ALIAS: CR-EHRS-RT

appears on SRS screen 118

Indicates the total credit that the student is awarded this term for successful completion of enrollments in course sections. Not every completed course section contributes to Earned_Credit. Certain grades do not earn credit, for example XX, XC, NG, and AUD. This does not include Total_Penn_Eqvlnt_Credit_Amount in the DEGREE_PURSUAL_ALL_V Table.

See also Stats_Credit_Type in the DEGREE_PURSUAL_ALL_VTable.

Term_Gpa

RT040 TERM-GPA

NATURAL ALIAS: CURR-GPA-RT

appears on SRS screens 118, 136

A measure of the student's academic success for this term for this degree program. Term_Gpa is calculated by dividing the Term_Grade_Points by the Term_Quality_Credit.

See also Term_Grade_Points and Term_Quality_Credit in the DEGREE_TERM_ALL_V Table.

Term_Grade_Points

RT035 TERM GRADE POINTS

NATURAL ALIAS: CR-QPTS-RT

Term_Quality_Credit

RT030 TERM QUALITY CREDITS

NATURAL ALIAS: CR-QHRS-RT

The total number of credits for enrollments attempted this term towards the student's GPA for this degree pursual. Examples of enrollments which are NOT attempted towards grade point averages(GPA) include Pass/Fail enrollments which receive a grade of Pass(P); Audits (AUD); and Withdraw Passing (W).

Qualtiy_Credit is calculated by using Registered_Credits, except for enrollments not attempted towards grade point averages (GPA),in which case Quality_Credit is 0.

Term_Registered_Credit

RT020 TERM REGISTERED CRED

NATURAL ALIAS: CR-AHRS-RT

appears on SRS screens 118, 104, 109, 113, 136

The total amount of credit carried by all of a student's enrollments this term assigned to this degree pursual. Registered_Credit is used to compute academic statistics.

Term is part of the record key for all student term data in SRS, and is found in the context line on many SRS screens

The term in which information about this student pursuing this degree applies.

Penn divides the academic year into 3 terms or semesters: Fall, Spring, and Summer. Terms are designated by the 4-digit calendar year, followed by a term code. The Spring term code is A, the Summer term code is B, and the Fall term code is C.

Example: 1995C means Fall 1995, 1996A means Spring 1996, 1996B means Summer 1996

See also Restrict_Attend_Dates in the DEGREE_TERM_ALL_VTable.

Time_Status

RT090 TIME STATUS

NATURAL ALIAS: FT-PT-RT

The value may change frequently early in the term due to the registration process.

Values:

[Null] Not calculated
N Student has zero enrolled hours
F Full-time
