The NPTF recommended that these monies be used for remedying the single biggest point of catastrophic failure in the network - the central routing core. The core should be distributed from one to six locations with single mode fiber linking the routers.
The Next Generation Network Project will require about $1.7M of debt service in FY 2002.
Electronics costs are based on a three year replacement cycle.
Networking will continue to get $350K of Internet2 subsidy through FY 2005.
Networking will take on increased debt service for Next Generation PennNet Project beyond $1.7M in FY 2002.
In FY 2003 the Telecommunicationís budget will subsidize the Next Generation PennNet Project by at least $500K a year.
